Today the representatives of Freeport of Riga Authority officially welcomed German cruise operator’s TUI Cruises newest cruise vessel Mein Schiff 2 with its first call to the port of Riga. Last summer Riga port welcomed Mein Schiff, this summer already Mein Schiff 2. Captain Michael Block humorously gives a promise for next summer - to visit Riga with Mein Schiff 3 and 4.
Mein Schiff 2 was built in 1997 previously called Mercury; however in 2011 it was completely renovated and renamed. Thus, this journey makes it Mein Schiff 2’s third cruise in her new history. The ship is 264 meters long, although not the largest cruise ship ever visited the port of Riga, but it was docked at Krievu Island due to its deep draught. Ship's unique interior was made by German designers; through the design elements runs sea theme. On board guests are provided with variety of activities such as: painting workshops, cooking courses, sports and plenty of procedures in a sophisticated spa center.
So far cruise ship has traveled the Norwegian Sea and currently going on Baltic Sea. The cruise has brought to Riga 1893 passengers, mainly from Germany. Cruise passengers have been pleasantly surprised by the warm weather in Latvia.
This summer Mein Schiff 2 will call Riga three more times.
