A. Šlesers outlines the most urgent problems in the port development

Shleseri-smallAt the meeting with entrepreneurs Ainārs Šlesers, the Freeport of Riga Chairman of Board, pointed out the most urgent problems the companies located in the port territory should pay attention to: make more efficient use of the company rented territory; search for opportunities of entering into long-term cooperation agreements; develop financing of the European Union funds, as well as make use of the free economic zone status.

Riga Tourism Coordination and Information Centre seminar

Freeport of Riga is Open to Brazilian Cargoes

Brazilian Minister for Ports and delegation of entrepreneurs came to Latvia on a working visit and on May 7 were introduced with the possibilities of the Port of Riga to reload the main Brazilian export product – sugar, as well as possibilities of other terminals so that in the perspective the Port of Riga could be used also for logistics of other food cargoes, including frozen products.

Russian businesses are looking for new development possibilities through the Port of Riga

On May 18-21, 2010 Mr Yevgeny Primakov, the president of the Russia’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry, visited Latvia. On May 19 he visited the Port of Riga and held a meeting with the CEO of the Freeport of Riga Mr. Leonids Loginovs and other representatives of the Freeport of Riga Authority. During the port visit there was organized a boat trip in the port aquatorium in order to evaluate the possibilities offered by the port and its pace of development.

Location for a new industrial park is marked within the territory of the Freeport of Riga

Riga City Council hosted Moscow delegation lead by Mr Vladimir Malishkov, the Minister of Moscow Government, during its visit in Riga from March 22 - 25. The delegation met the CEO of the Freeport of Riga Mr Leonids Loginovs and other high-ranking persons.

This year 9.64 MLN tons or cargoes have been handled at the Freeport of Riga

During the first four months of this year 9.64 MLN tons of cargoes were handled at the Freeport of Riga which is by 2.3% less than during the respective period of 2009.

This year 4.63 MLN tons or cargoes have been handled at the Freeport of Riga

During the first two months of this year 4.63 MLN tons of cargoes were handled at the Freeport of Riga which is by 7.7% less than during the respective period of 2009.

2010 Cruise Season Opens at the Port of Riga

On May 4, 2010 the entrance of cruise ship Mona Lisa opened the 2010 cruise season at the port of Riga.

Canadian delegation visits Freeport of Riga

On January 19, 2010 a delegation from the Senate of Canada , headed by the Speaker Mr. Noel Kinsella and accompanied by H.E. Mr. Scott Heatherington, the Ambassador of Canada in the Republic of Latvia, visited the Freeport of Riga.

This year 7.14 MLN tons of cargoes have been handled at the Freeport of Riga

During the quarter of this year 7.14 MLN tons of cargoes were handled at the Freeport of Riga which is by 4.2% less than during the respective period of 2009.

The Freeport of Riga Hosts the Largest Cargo Ship in Its History

The Freeport of Riga continues its successful development even during the times of economic slowdown. Last week the port hosted the ship NYON which carried 70 483 tons of coal, and it is the largest ship which has ever entered the port. Once the coal was transshipped at RCT, the vessel left for Amsterdam.

The Minsk Free Economic Zone and the Freeport of Riga Authority enters into a cooperation agreement

On March 31, the Freeport of Riga Authority and the Minsk Free Economic Zone signed a protocol of intent and cooperation agreement about mutual support in promotion of business activity among entrepreneurs from Latvia and Belarus, who already operate or plan to operate within the territory of the Minsk free economic zone or the Freeport of Riga.

The amount of cargoes handled at the Freeport of Riga last year has increased by 0.5%

During the last year 29.72 MLN tons of cargoes were handled at the Freeport of Riga which is by 0.5%% more than during 2008.
