The port of Riga occupies 11% of the territory of the city of Riga and includes areas of the historical center, business and industrial districts, as well as popular recreational places on the banks of the Daugava and the Gulf of Riga. Historically developed residential areas are located both within the port territory and next to it.
One of the main priorities of the Freeport of Riga Authority is the port safety and security, which is monitored in cooperation with relevant state institutions and operational services.
